纽约时报:中国曙光星云夺全球超级计算机500强次席 　　导语：刚刚结束的国际超级计算大会(ISC)公布了最新的全球高性能计算机500强，中国曙光公司研发的星云(Nebulae)系统名列第二，一举超过了众多欧洲和日本的系统。《纽约时报》撰文称，该事件凸显了中国在科技领域日益增长的实力和雄心。　　　以下为文章全文：　　曙光星云位于深圳的超级计算中心，运算速度达到1.27 PFLOPS，一个PFLOPS相当于每秒可进行1千万亿次数学运算。　　此外，曙光星云的峰值运算速度是世界最快的，不过该指标的重要性不及在标准化运算测试中获得的实际运算速度值。　　世界最快的电脑仍是美国田纳西州橡树岭国家实验室的 Cray Jaguar超级计算机，该系统主要用于模拟核试验等，去年十一月该电脑在测试中取得了1.75 PFLOPS的运算分数。　　去年中国排行最靠前的是国防科技大学研制的天河一号，名列第五位，不过今年降至第七。　　美国在这一榜单中仍具有统治性的地位，既是生产最多超级计算机的国家，也是安装利用最多的国家。今年美国共拥有前500强计算机中的282台，较去年11月的277台有所提高。不过中国很明显有在这方面挑战美国的雄心，此前业界就预期中国可能将努力赶在本次排名前使用自主设计元件的超级计算机，曙光星云使用的是英特尔和英伟达的芯片。　　这款使用中国自行研发生产的芯片的新系统预期将于今年稍晚些时候问世，不少超级计算行业的科学家和工程师表示该系统可能夺得世界第一称号。　　美国劳伦斯伯克利实验室的科学家霍斯特·西蒙指出：“唯一清楚的发展是中国人正在挑战最高端的超级计算机”。田纳西大学计算机科学家杰克·唐加拉(Jack Dongarra)则表示：“到今年年底，中国的超级计算机运算能力可能超过欧盟各国的综合，而且其系统可能夺得500强的榜首位置，为此我不会感到吃惊。”唐加拉是组织超级计算机500强排行的研究者之一。　　自从美国上世纪60年代设计第一款超级计算机以来，美国在该领域的领导地位几乎从未动摇，不过2002年日本地球模拟器(Earth Simulator)系统曾暂时夺得运算速度第一的殊荣，在美国激起了轩然大波。　　此后美国开始在该领域加大投资，并于2008年突破了每秒千万亿次运算大关，现在美国计划建造能够达到ExaScale级别的系统，其运算速度将达到现有最快系统的一千倍。该目标预期将于2018年至2020年间实现。　　唐加拉表示：“气候、核能、高新材料等方面的科学家需要 ExaScale级别的计算机来推进相关领域的研究。”
